Camelia Ilie is an entrepreneurial leader, advisor and professor with more than 25 years of experience in value creation, strategy, innovation and P&L management in organizations in Europe, Latin America and the U.S. She is Dean of Strategy and Institutional Affairs, Chair of the Leadership Center and Professor at INCAE, a leading business school in Latin America. During the last decade, together with an excellent team of leaders, they transformed the business model of Executive Education to position it in the Top 25 of the Financial Times world ranking. In addition, they created an online education start-up, in alliance with Emeritus, a world leader in educational technology. Up to 6,500 participants from more than 15 countries studied annually in the areas he has led.

He leads programs for presidents, CEOs and boards of directors to help them improve their governance systems, focusing on competitiveness, strategy, change management, succession planning, digital transformation and innovation. She has also worked with leading corporations such as Banco Santander, Gas Natural, Iberdrola, PWC, Inter-American Development Bank, Bankinter, Telefónica, Iberia, Maersk, Copa Airlines, on leadership and change programs following M&A, procurement or strategic business transformation transactions. He is a member and Chair Emeritus of the External Advisory Board of the Institute for Advanced Studies of the University of Miami. He has been a member of the Advisory Council for Latin America of the American Association of Colleges and Schools of Business (AACSB), of the Board of Trustees of LASPAU and of the Excellence in Practice Awards of the European Foundation for Management Development, among others.

Through the opportunity to work with many industries and countries, she has developed the ability to work in multicultural groups and have a global perspective. Her strengths are developing high-performance teams and managing complexity, strategy, innovation, and trend analysis to identify opportunities and anticipate change. Trained as an engineer with a doctorate in business administration, she was a research fellow at the Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard University. In LaRevista, Harvard Review for Latin America, she writes in the column "Perspective in time of change". Dr. Ilie also researches and writes on higher education, business school models, MBA programs, women's entrepreneurship and leadership. In recognition of her work, she received the Women's Economic Forum's Woman of the Decade Award in Education and Leadership in Latin America and is listed in Forbes magazine's list of the 100 most powerful women in Central America and the Caribbean.

Bernard Kilian is Dean of Faculty and Research at INCAE Business School, where he also teaches courses in the areas of Microeconomics and Operations Management as a full professor. A native of Germany, he holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Resource Economics and an M.Sc. in Agricultural Sciences with emphasis in Economics, both from the University of Hohenheim, Germany.

Prior to joining INCAE, he was in charge of the economic project within a national macro project in Germany called precision agriculture. He also taught at the graduate level at the University of Hohenheim, and was a visiting professor at the University of Minnesota. He has led numerous market investigations for sustainable products in international markets.

As a full professor of INCAE in the master's degree programs, he has a vast experience, backed by several years of professional practice. Professor Kilian teaches courses in the areas of Microeconomics and Operations Management.

Michele Quintano is Dean of Academic Programs and Associate Professor at INCAE Business School, as well as Visiting Professor in the Department of Marketing at ESADE Business School (Spain).

During the period 2002-2022 he held various positions of management responsibility in Executive Education. He was associate dean of the Executive MBAs at ESADE Business School, managing various MBA programs for senior participants, including the Executive MBA, the Corporate MBA and the Master in Marketing and Sales Management. He has also held various management and academic leadership positions in the Executive Education Unit of the same business school, where he has been interim director and executive director of the Open Enrollment Programs.

He has served as Professor of Business Management and Marketing at the University of Naples Parthenope (Italy), where for fourteen years he was a regular professor teaching Marketing, Retailing and Business Management. He has also served as Director of Management Degrees at the same university for two years.

Professor Quintano has other academic experiences at the Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali Luiss Guido Carli (Rome, Italy), where for five years he was in charge of International Marketing in the MSc (Master of Science) in International Management, and at the Wirtschaft Universität in Vienna (Austria) as a visiting professor.

He holds a PhD in Management Sciences from ESADE Business School-Universidad Ramón Llull (Spain). He holds a Master's degree in International Management from CEMS Global Alliance, an international institution that, for thirty years, has grouped together the best business schools in the world. He also holds a degree in Business Administration from the Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi (Italy).

At ESADE Business School (Spain) in the period 2002-2022 he has held various positions of management responsibility in Executive Education.

In the Executive Education unit, he has been Acting Director of the Executive Education unit and Executive Director of the Open Enrollment Programs. Guatemalan academic, consultant and businessman. Member of INCAE Business School since 1986. He has been academic director and professor in different executive training programs for the private, public and non-governmental sectors.

He specialized in the areas of Institutional Analysis, Development Finance, Microfinance and Economic and Social Development. He is a member of the Global Network of Microfinance in MBA Programs and has been a member of the Academy of Management (AOM).

He has lectured in different parts of the world including all the countries of the Central American Isthmus, USA, Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, France, Philippines, India, Morocco, South Africa, and Uganda.

He teaches courses in the master's degree programs in the areas of Development Finance and Microfinance, Managerial Control and Finance, Entrepreneurship and New Enterprises, Introduction to Consulting, Negotiation, and Management Consulting Practice (MCP).

Work experience

Guatemalan academic, consultant and businessman. He is a Full Professor at INCAE Business School, an institution he joined in 1986 and where he has risen through the academic ranks from Assistant Researcher to Full Professor.

At INCAE Business School he teaches courses in the master's degree programs in the areas of Development Finance and Microfinance, Management Control and Finance, Entrepreneurship and New Enterprises, Introduction to Consulting, Negotiation, and Management Consulting Practice (MCP) (Field Work, an initiative of which he is Founder and Academic Director).

As founder and Academic Director of Management Consulting Practice he has had the opportunity to support more than two hundred companies in the Americas (among them Bayer Corporation in the U.S.A.; Cia. Pfizer, Grupo Gigante, Aeroméxico, and Carrier Corporation in Mexico; Grupo la Fragua in Guatemala; Grupo TACA in El Salvador; Cargill in Honduras; Corporación de Supermercados Unidos in Costa Rica; Grupo Pellas in Nicaragua; MARCIMEX in Ecuador; Bolsa de Valores, EDIFICA and MARCIMEX in Peru; and the Radisson Hotel in Bolivia) in the solution of strategic and managerial problems, through practical application work prepared under his direction and supervision by graduates of the MBA program at INCAE Business School.

Professor Alfaro has also taught courses in the areas of Quantitative Methods for Managers, Political and Environmental Analysis, Economic Development Theory, and Project Formulation and Evaluation, and has been academic director and professor in different executive training programs for the private, public and non-governmental sectors. He is Founder and Academic Director of the Program/Diploma in Senior Management of Microfinance Institutions (PAD-MIF) and the Diploma in Advanced Management in Banking and Finance for Development (PGA BFD).

He has also been a professor of the Master of Medical Management Program at Tulane University (USA) and professor of the Negotiation and Business Plan courses at the Escuela Panamericana El Zamorano (Honduras).

In 2005 he was awarded two academic distinctions at the Universidad Sergio Arboleda in Colombia:

  1. the Sergio Arboleda Pin (the highest award given by this university to an academic), and
  2. the honorary degree of Professor of that university.

Dr. Alfaro has been the Academic Champion for Microfinance in MBA Programs at INCAE Business School for the past several years. He is a member of the Global Network of Microfinance in MBA Programs and has been a member of the Academy of Management (AOM). He is Associate Professor of Technology and Innovation Management at INCAE Business School, has directed the Executive Masters in Marketing and Digital Transformation, and currently directs the Specialization in Artificial Intelligence for Digital Business.

He is the author of more than 200 management and academic papers related to the adoption of technological innovations and business intelligence. He is also a pioneer in the incorporation and adoption of Generative Artificial Intelligence tools in the teaching of the case method and critical thinking.

Dr. Barahona has extensive experience advising and training business and government leaders in more than 20 countries. Through the corporate programs of INCAE and the firm Sociométrika, he has contributed with local and global companies in the identification and solution of complex problems, based on a design approach, data analysis and "People Analytics".

He earned an MBA with an emphasis in Banking and Finance from INCAE and a PhD Media, Arts, and Sciences from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media Lab. His thesis "Diffusion of ideas, practices, and artifacts: network effects on collective outcomes" was guided by Alex (Sandy) Pentland, declared by FORBES as one of the "7 most powerful data scientists in the world".

Juan Carlos Barahona is an associate professor at INCAE Business School. His general academic interest is on the role of digital technologies and social structures in the diffusion of ideas, behaviors and artifacts.

He was a member of the Human Dynamics Group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Media Lab. The scientific research group led by Prof. Alex (Sandy) Pentland, one of the most cited computer scientists and considered by Newsweek magazine as one of the 100 most influential people on the planet.

Before joining MIT, he was Deputy Director of the Latin American Center for Competitiveness and Sustainable Development at INCAE, and consultant to the World Bank for the development of the strategy and business plan for the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor, and on issues related to education.

In the late 1990s, he led the research team that developed the conceptual model and facilitated the reform process of the five Central American customs offices, as part of a joint action-research initiative on trade logistics by the Harvard Center for International Development, Harvard Business School's Center for Strategy and Competition and INCAE.

Prof. Barahona has served as a consultant to companies and governments in several Latin American countries in the fields of strategy and organization. He is co-author of Costa Rica's education policy and one of the pioneers in digital government in Costa Rica. He is the author of business case studies, articles, books and book chapters on sustainable development, customs reform, trade logistics, information technologies for development and social network analysis. Before opting for an academic career, he was an entrepreneur and founder of a software company and a business consulting firm.

He currently complements his academic work by advising companies as a consultant or as a member of their board of directors.

He specializes in the areas of Strategy and Entrepreneurship and was Dean of INCAE Business School from 2001 to 2007. He is currently Academic Director of the Executive MBA (EMBA) and the Senior Management Program. He was a visiting professor at the University of Michigan, USA for 10 years, at Cotrugli Business School, Europe for 8 years and led the Steve Aronson Research Chair in Strategy and Agribusiness at INCAE for 12 years. He has taught in executive programs at the Business Schools of the Universities of Michigan, Chicago and Duke and In Company programs for Carlsberg, Coca Cola, Oracle, CEMEX, Citibank, Chiquita, among others.

He is Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship in the Master's programs and former Dean of the Faculty and Master's programs at INCAE. For 10 years he was Visiting Professor in Entrepreneurial Strategy and International Business at the University of Michigan Business School, Ann Arbor, has been Director of Doctoral Dissertations at HEC, Business School, Paris and has lectured in residential and executive programs at the Business Schools of the Universities of Michigan, Chicago and Duke.

For the past eight years he has been a visiting professor at Cotrugli Business School, Europe. He has taught "In Company" programs, among other companies, for Alstom Group, Roche, Carlsberg, Coca Cola, BASF, Oracle, Novartis, CEMEX, COFIA-AFP - Citibank, Sanofi, Millicom (TIGO) and Chiquita.

Professor Brenes is currently the Director of the Executive MBA (EMBA), Director of the Senior Management Program (PAG) at INCAE and holder of the Steve Aronson Chair in Strategy and Agribusiness. The Chair was created thanks to a significant donation from Mr. Steve Aronson, founder of the Britt Group N.V.

Professor Brenes has a number of international publications including the edition of two books, "The Future of Entrepreneurship in Latin America" with J. Haar and "Understanding Entrepreneurial Family Businesses in Uncertain Environments: Opportunities and Resources in Latin America" with M. Nordqvist et al, the first in second edition 2016 and the second from 2012. Other recent publications include "Learning to become a high reliability organization in the food retail business", "Assesing agri-business firms' performances: Organizational and marketing business models of high/low sales and ROE outcomes", Strategy and innovation in emerging economies after the end of the commodity boom-insights from Latin America" and "Hospital Clinica Biblica in 2013" published in the Journal of Business Research, 2016. Additionally, Professor Brenes has 12 articles published in internationally prestigious academic journals, more than 50 case studies and two other books entitled "Desafíos Presentes y Futuros del Medio Ambiente y la Productividad en la Agroempresa Centroamericana" (Present and Future Challenges of the Environment and Productivity in Central American Agribusiness) and "Evaluación de Proyectos en Impacto Ambiental" (Project Evaluation in Environmental Impact).

In addition to his academic work, Dr. Brenes is founder of the consulting firm bac&asociados S.A. His work in the area of consulting is focused on business and corporate strategy, mergers and acquisitions and the management of family businesses. During the period from May 1998 to June 2000, he served as Minister of Science and Technology and Minister of Agriculture and Livestock of the Government of Costa Rica and, as such, was also Chairman of the Board of Directors of public companies in the areas of production, irrigation and drainage and marketing of agricultural, agro-industrial and fishing products.

D. in Agricultural Economics with a major in International Trade and Marketing from the University of Florida (Gainesville) with the support of a Fulbright scholarship from the U.S. Government, and an MBA with honors in Business Administration from INCAE. Previously, he obtained a degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Costa Rica.

A German and Swiss national, Silke Bucher is an Assistant Professor at INCAE Business School with a specialization in Organizational Behavior and Leadership. After completing her Master of Science in Business Administration at the Catholic University Eichstätt-Ingolstadt, Germany, she obtained her Ph.D. in Organizational Change from the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland. She completed her post-doctorate at the Chair of Strategic Management in Pluralistic Environments at HEC Montréal, Canada. Her research to date has focused on organizational change and inter-group collaboration, with a particular interest in the health sector.

Work experience

Prior to joining INCAE Business School as an Assistant Professor, Silke Verena Bucher gained international experience working in different countries including Germany, France, Switzerland, Canada and Costa Rica. Post-doctoral fellow at the Chair of Strategic Management in Pluralistic Environments at HEC Montréal, Canada, and obtained her Ph.D. from the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland.

She worked as a team leader and expert consultant for organizational culture at McKinsey & Company, and as an internal consultant at Gardena International, Germany, with a focus on process improvement.

Until now, his research has focused on organizational change and collaboration among groups with a particular interest in the health sector. She did longitudinal studies on change initiatives in hospitals, and worked as a coach for interprofessional teams. Her motivation is to make organizations increasingly better places to work, with the ability to deliver sustainable excellence in services, products or impact for society more broadly. His work has been published, among others, in Organization Science and Organization Studies.

Guillermo Cardoza has been a full-time professor of Innovation and Change Management at INCAE Business School since 2013. He has developed his career in teaching, research, management of academic institutions and business consulting in the United States, Europe and Latin America and is the author of books and numerous academic publications.

Since 1988 he has been advising several governments in the region (Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela and several Caribbean countries) and has worked as a teacher and consultant for various international organizations and multinational companies such as the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Scientific and Cultural Organization (Orcyt, Cresalc), The Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), International Council of Scientific Unions (ICSU), Committee on Science and Technology for Developing Countries (COSTED), Association of Caribbean States (ACS-AEC), UNESCO, Adidas, E&Y, Pfizer, P&G, Roche Pharma, Abbott, Grupo Santander, 3M, Nestlé, Cargill, Telefónica, Banesto, La Caixa, BUPA-Sanitas and Walmart.

During his tenure as Executive Director of the Latin American Academy of Sciences - ACAL (1987-1996), Professor Cardoza created and directed the Center for Science Studies. At IE Business School (Madrid), where he was associated as professor of Management of Innovation and Competitiveness in emerging economies, he was director for thirteen years and a member of its steering committee; and created the Euro-Latin American Center, responsible for the internationalization of the school in Latin America and for research on the internationalization of emerging market companies. In 2000 he co-founded the Sumaq Alliance, formed by IE Business School together with seven of the most prestigious business schools in Latin America.

He holds three master's degrees: in Latin American Studies, in International Relations and in Management. From 1981 to 1982 he was Process and Planning Engineer at 3M Colombia and Chief Laboratory Engineer at IMA S.A., Bogota, Colombia.

He has been a research fellow in Innovation, Competitiveness and Economic Development in Emerging Markets at Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government, BCSIA - Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, Cambridge, MA. In addition, he has postdoctoral training in System Dynamics at MIT - Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sloan School of Management, Cambridge, MA.

He has taught International Economics and Technological Development, with a master's degree in International Economics from the Universidad Central de Venezuela, Caracas, Venezuela (1991-1996) and has done management consulting at Marino Recio y Asociados Caracas, Venezuela (1988-1992).

He holds a Ph.D. in Economics and Development, International Relations and Business Management from the Sorbonne University (Paris I and Paris III) and a degree in Chemical Engineering from the National University of Colombia. He has been a research fellow at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in innovation and competitiveness (1996-2000) and a postdoctoral student at the Sloan School of Management - MIT in System Dynamics. Professor Raquel Chanto obtained her D.Phil. (Ph.D.) in Political Science from Oxford University. She received her M.A. in Public Affairs from Princeton University and her B.A. and J.D. from the University of Costa Rica. He is a recipient of the Fulbright Scholarship from the U.S. Department of State, the St. Catherine's College Postgraduate Scholarship at Oxford University and the Wallace Watson Scholarship, also at Oxford.

Dr. Chanto's research focuses on two areas: corruption-especially its political implications and its relationship with the modernization processes of societies-and democracy, with emphasis on electoral processes. Her teaching and consulting interests include political analysis of Latin American countries and political leadership communication.

Throughout her career, Professor Chanto has served as an advisor and political analyst in the Presidency of the Republic of Costa Rica, the Secretariat for Political Affairs of the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB). She was a negotiator at the Ministry of Foreign Trade of Costa Rica and has coordinated the group of experts in Electoral Observation Missions of the OAS in Peru, Mexico, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, El Salvador and Guatemala.

Luciano Ciravegna es profesor pleno y Director de Investigación de INCAE Business School, donde imparte cursos en las áreas de Marketing y Estrategia. Además, es Director de la Cátedra de Agronegocios y Sostenibilidad Steve Aronson, en esta escuela de negocios.

Su experiencia docente incluye cursos para pregrado, posgrado, MBA y programas ejecutivos en negocios internacionales, estrategia corporativa, estrategia competitiva, competitividad y desarrollo, y pensamiento de riesgo empresarial en las siguientes instituciones: INCAE, The London School of Economics, Royal Holloway College, ESCP, Escuela de Negocios Los Andes y Universidad de Hong Kong. 

He has conducted research and consulting work in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Chile, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina, United Kingdom, Austria and Italy. He has also worked as a business risk analyst with a focus on Latin American markets.

His academic career and international experience began at the age of 16, when he was admitted to the United World College. He then obtained a degree in Economic History from the London School of Economics and published his undergraduate thesis in Italian as his first book. 

After undergraduate studies, he became a Fellow of St. Antony's College, Oxford University, where he graduated from a two-year research master's program, the MPhil (Master of Philosophy) in Latin American Economics and Politics. 

Posteriormente, obtuvo un Ph. D. en el Instituto de Estudios de Desarrollo de la London School of Economics, con el apoyo de becas de INCAE, el Centro Studi D’Agliano, la London School of Economics y el Consejo Italiano de Ciencias Sociales. 

Durante el doctorado, Ciravegna se desempeñó como consultor en competitividad, clúster y riesgo político en Guatemala y Costa Rica para INCAE-CLACDS; en Londres lo hizo para la consultora de riesgo político Executive Analysis; en Viena para ONUDI, y en Italia para la provincia de Turín. 

He is the author of three books and his articles have been published in top-ranked journals by Financial Times and ABS: Journal of International Business Studies, Strategic Management Journal, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Business Ethics, Global Strategy Journal and Journal of World Business..

Francisco J. Conejo is the Director of the Marketing Area, as well as Director of the Executive Master in Marketing and Sales at INCAE Business School.

He is also an Associate Professor of Marketing. He has over 20 years of international teaching experience, having taught a variety of undergraduate and master's level courses in Costa Rica, the United States, and New Zealand. He currently teaches Marketing 1/ Marketing Fundamentals, Marketing Management, Sustainable Marketing, and Qualitative Research for Marketing and Sales in the different programs offered by INCAE. She also oversees student consulting projects.

His research combines different areas of marketing, psychology, and sustainability. Through this mix he seeks to improve how consumer behavior is understood and managed. His research has been published in a variety of international journals, such as the Journal of Macromarketing, Journal of Brand Management, Journal of Place Branding & Public Diplomacy, Journal of Sport and Tourism, Journal of Brand Strategy, and Journal of Digital & Social Media Marketing, among others.

Prior to joining the academic field, Dr. Conejo worked extensively in the corporate environment marketing goods and services in different categories. He has experience with the U.S. general/mass market. He also has experience with ethnic marketing, having served the Asian, Hispanic and African-American segments. To that is added international marketing experience, having helped take U.S. brands around the world. All of this experience informs his teaching and research.

Dr. Conejo is a graduate of the University of Colorado (USA), from where he obtained his MBA and MS in International Business. D. in Marketing from the University of Otago (New Zealand).

Profesor asistente en las áreas de contabilidad gerencial, control gerencial, ética y cumplimiento en INCAE Business School. Miembro de la Cátedra de Sostenibilidad VIVA Idea Schmidheiny donde trabaja con otros colegas en el desarrollo de soluciones que permitan a líderes gestionar impacto, basándose en un enfoque de investigación-acción.

His research focuses on the interdisciplinary perspectives of accounting and control - specializing in the analysis and understanding of the accounting and control tools that interact in the dynamics of decision making in companies and institutions.

He began his academic career working in the teaching teams of NEOMA Business School in France. There he was an assistant in the Strategy department, as well as in the specialization in Controlling. He taught since 2005 organizational behavior and introduction to strategy. In 2008 he started working for HEC PARIS, in the Alternative Management specialization, a pedagogical project aimed at generating solutions to major social and environmental challenges from the management sciences. In this context, he worked as a project coordinator with large multinational companies, as well as NGOs, cooperatives and mutuals. In 2009 he entered the PhD program at HEC Paris, where he was in charge of the Cost Analysis Methods course.

Since his return to Costa Rica he has held different positions in the civil service being vice minister of Labor from 2016 to 2018 and member of different boards of directors and other high-level collegiate bodies. Today he is a member of the board of directors of one of the main banks in the Costa Rican market, as well as of several of its subsidiaries. In addition, he chairs the compliance committee of the conglomerate. From these positions he has been able to develop extensive experience in the fight and prevention of fraud and corruption.

Professor Carla Fernández Corrales obtained her Ph.D. in Business Administration with a concentration in Information Systems from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In addition, she completed undergraduate studies in Industrial Engineering and obtained with honors an Academic Master's Degree in Computer Science, both from the University of Costa Rica. She was awarded a Fulbright scholarship from the U.S. Department of State.

Dr. Fernández Corrales' research focuses on the study of technology management and innovation using machine learning methods. Her teaching and consulting interests focus on the strategic use of information technologies, data science and agile methodologies.

As a consultant, lecturer and TEDx speaker, Professor Fernández Corrales stands out for her ability to communicate highly specialized knowledge about technology to non-technical audiences, establishing connections with the value proposition, strategy and risk analysis in organizations.

Actualmente es profesora asistente de Marketing en INCAE Business School y hasta febrero de 2023 lo fue en la Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, en Buenos Aires, Argentina.

She received a Ph.D. in Marketing from HEC Paris, France and an M.C. in Marketing Management from Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi, Milan, Italy, where she graduated cum laude. She spent a year as a visiting doctoral student at Texas A&M, Mays School of Business.

Professor Fumagalli directs her research towards the study of consumer behavior and welfare. To investigate these issues, she uses both experimental design and survey methods. Specifically, her focus is on understanding how negative emotions such as loneliness, disgust, among others, influence people's purchasing decisions.

Her work has been published in several international journals such as the Journal of Consumer Psychology, Journal of Retailing, Frontiers in Psychology and Current Opinion in Psychology. She currently has articles under review in the International Journal of Research in Marketing and with Current Research in Ecological and Social Psychology.

Because of her experience as a marketing consultant and active researcher, she has been invited to participate in workshops, doctoral colloquia and conferences in different countries. In December 2022, for example, she addressed the topic "Covid-19, vaccine brand preference and political orientation" at the SMLA: Strategic Management in Latin America Conference, held in Buenos Aires.

In 2022 she participated in the podcast ¡Compórtate! of Behavioral Insights (Argentina), where she spoke about consumer behavior. And, that same year, the Argentine newspaper La Nación interviewed her to address the topic "Dispersion, an evil of the times that puts technology in the spotlight".

Throughout her academic and professional career, she has earned a number of awards such as third place in the Best Undergraduate Course Professor category from Di Tella Business School (2022), a fellowship from Harvard Business School's Global Colloquium on Participant-Centered Learningl program, and the Editor's Choice Award for Marketing from SAGE in 2021.

Margaret Rose Grigsby is a Professor of Leadership and Marketing. She chairs her company Brainpower Latin America, from which she is Executive Coach of Senior Leaders, speaker on Leadership and Women's Leadership and consultant in brand strategy and expert in personal branding.

She has extensive management experience throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, due to a professional career of nearly 25 years with multinational companies. He has held positions as CEO in Argentina, COO in Colombia, President and General Manager in Costa Rica, VP Latin America in Mexico and VP Director in the Caribbean, among others. During her career she has had the opportunity to work with all Latin American markets, which has allowed her to have a very broad vision of the cultural differences and similarities throughout the region.

She holds a graduate degree in Leadership Coaching from Georgetown University, Washington DC, an MBA from INCAE Business School and a double major in Social and Organizational Psychology from McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

Urs Jäger is a strategist, researcher and teacher, specialist in strategic change management, leadership, business ethics, entrepreneurship and impact management with extensive experience in Europe and Latin America.

He is an associate professor at INCAE Business School and executive director of VIVA Idea. He guides his work from approaches of action-research methodology, sustainability, entrepreneurship and social innovation, with a focus on the inclusion of formal and informal markets, working in emerging countries.

He holds the VIVA Idea Schmidheiny Chair in Sustainability at INCAE Business School, in joint leadership with other colleagues. The Chair focuses on developing solutions that enable leaders to manage their impact and develops solutions based on an action research approach.

As executive director of VIVA Idea, an organization that is part of the VIVA Trust ecosystem of organizations that supports sustainable development throughout Latin America, he executes processes of action, accompaniment and training for leaders of companies, foundations, governments, non-governmental organizations and communities in managing impact. Impact management means the way in which leaders can make decisions and act to promote social progress. In this process, VIVA Idea collaborates with the Chair at INCAE Business School.

Urs Jäger's research focuses on collaborations between actors in unequal situations (such as indigenous peoples and multinational corporations), drivers of informal market development and governance practices that strengthen informal market development with a focus on social and economic progress. Together with his teams, he has developed action-research studies in Europe, Indonesia and more than ten countries in Latin America.

Professor Mauricio Jenkins is a Full Professor at INCAE Business School. He holds a Ph.D. degree in International Economics and Finance from Brandeis University. He also holds an M.A. in International Economics and Finance from Brandeis University, an M.B.A. with Distinction from INCAE Business School, and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Costa Rica. In 1994 the United States Government awarded him the prestigious Fulbright scholarship to pursue his doctoral studies.

As a member of the faculty of INCAE for over 25 years, Professor Jenkins has taught corporate finance, international finance and international business courses for MBA students in several countries in Latin America, Europe and the United States, as well as dozens of executive seminars on company valuation, portfolio management, treasury management, investment projects, international finance and financing structuring in more than a dozen countries.

Professor Jenkins is the Academic Director of the Executive MBA in Finance at INCAE, and was Director of the Institute's Senior Management Program for 10 years. He has also been a visiting professor at the European Business School, Rotterdam School of Management and Brandeis University, teaching courses in corporate finance and international finance at both universities.

Professor Jenkins has also served as a consultant to the Harvard Institute for International Development. Harvard Institute for International Development (HIID), the Central American Bank for Economic Integration, the Government of Costa Rica, the Panama Canal Authority, the National Bank of Costa Rica, as well as several business groups in the region. Professor Jenkins has also served on more than half a dozen Boards of Directors of leading companies and institutions in the region. His consulting activities have been mainly focused on the valuation of companies and the evaluation of investment projects, as well as the development of financial strategies for several companies and entities.

In 1994 the United States government awarded him the prestigious Fulbright scholarship for his doctoral studies. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at the Central American Institute of Business Administration (INCAE).

As a member of the Institute's faculty, Professor Jenkins has taught finance and international business courses for MBA students, as well as numerous executive seminars on business valuation, portfolio management, treasury management, investment projects and financing structuring in countries such as Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and Venezuela.

In 2004, he was appointed Academic Director of the Senior Management Program, the longest running program at INCAE, and was also Academic Director of the Master of Medical Management Program, a master's program taught jointly by INCAE and Tulane University.

Professor Jenkins has also served as a consultant to the Harvard Institute for International Development (HIID), the Government of Costa Rica, and major business groups in the region.

Luis López es Profesor Pleno de INCAE Business School y especialista en el área de Gerencia de Operaciones y Tecnología. Ha impartido cursos de las maestrías de INCAE, tanto en los programas residenciales como en los Ejecutivos, y en seminarios ejecutivos en diferentes países.

He has experience as a consultant to companies in several Latin American countries, especially in: Technology Management, Manufacturing Strategy and Strategic Simulation. Recently he has explored possible uses of continuous simulation in environments that combine continuous flows with discrete flows in the production, transportation and storage of goods.

He has an important trajectory and experience as a consultant for companies and organizations in different Latin American countries, especially in Operations Management, Technology and Innovation Management and Strategic Simulation. He participates in Boards of Directors of several companies.

He has publications in several specialized journals, such as Journal of International Business Studies, British Journal of Management, Management Decision, Journal of Product Innovation Management, among others. He has also developed a large number of teaching materials, cases and simulators.

Es profesor pleno del INCAE en el área de Gerencia de Operaciones, Tecnología y Dinámica de Sistemas. Ha enseñado en los cursos de las maestrías del INCAE, tanto en los programas residenciales como en los Ejecutivos, y en los seminarios ejecutivos del INCAE en diferentes países.

He has several years of experience as a consultant to companies in several Latin American countries, especially in Operations Strategy, Supply Chain Management and Strategic Simulation.

He uses simulation models for strategic scenario planning and analysis of complex situations. He has developed simulation models to evaluate capacity requirements in processing plants, to assess behaviors of multi-store and multi-product supply chains in various industries, to estimate behaviors in hospital care networks, to determine the impact of contracting modalities in logistics processes, to study supply chains in service operations and to explore the dynamics of judicial supply chains.

He has done work related to the interaction between traditional strategic planning and the determination of resource requirements and needs over time. Recently he has explored possible uses of simulation in environments that combine continuous flows with discrete flows in the production, transportation and storage of goods.

Octavio Martínez Argüello is a professor of competitive and corporate strategy at INCAE Business School. He was also director of its Latin American Center for Competitiveness and Sustainable Development (CLACDS). His academic research on issues of vertical integration strategy, contracts and geographic location of companies has been awarded several times by the Academy of Management, the world's leading professional association of management academics and consultants.

He has been a consultant in strategy formulation and implementation for companies in the food and beverage, agribusiness, pharmaceutical, energy, financial and real estate sectors. He is a partner of bac&asociados, a consulting firm specialized in the strategic transformation of companies in Latin America. Previously, he has experience in operations management with Walmart de México y Centroamérica.

He has also been invited to lecture at Harvard University (HBS), University of Pennsylvania (Wharton), New York University (NYU Stern), Washington University in St. Louis (Olin), Instituto de Empresa (IE), Duke University, Boston University (Questrom), Insper (Brazil), Universidad Católica de Chile and Universidad Torcuato di Tella (Argentina).

D. in Business Strategy from the University of Toronto, Rotman School of Management. He also holds an MBA (with high distinction) from INCAE Business School, and a BS in Industrial Engineering (cum laude) from the American University (UAM). Prior to obtaining his doctorate, he was a senior researcher at INCAE, where he developed a comprehensive collection of teaching cases used in the institution's master's and executive education programs in Latin America. This collection includes topics on business and financial strategy, competitiveness, marketing and sales in transnational and local companies.

Prof. Martinez is an experienced coach who has seen and felt the substantial impact of energizing and inspiring coaching conversations. Applying Boyatzis' model of intentional change (ICT), his approach is positive and appreciative, looking for ways to help others identify and find their ideal self.

He has taught courses at the undergraduate and MBA level at Case Western Reserve University, in addition to facilitating coaching and leadership workshops. He is currently an Assistant Professor at INCAE, where he teaches courses in Human Resource Management.

Prof. Martinez holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from Case Western Reserve University and an MBA from INCAE Business School.

Mahsa Memarian es profesora de Finanzas en INCAE Business School. Su interés de investigación radica en la intersección de Economía Urbana / Inmobiliaria, Fijación de Precios de Activos y Finanzas Corporativas. En particular, analiza el efecto de las características urbanas de las ciudades y su sistema de gestión sobre el desempeño de las empresas y su resultado financiero.

La profesora Mahsa es supervisora de Journal of Business Research (JOBR), y también es miembro del Comité Editorial de la revista INCAE Business Review, del Comité Académico de Finanzas de Mujeres (AFFECT) de la Asociación Americana de Finanzas, del Comité de Mujeres Economistas de América Latina y el Caribe (WELAC), y de la Red de Economía Urbana de América Latina y el Caribe Asociación Económica (LACEA). Antes de iniciar su carrera académica, se desempeñó como ingeniera mecánica y especialista en investigación de mercado en diferentes sectores industriales en los que estuvo involucrada en varios proyectos en producción y finanzas corporativas.

He holds a Ph.D. in Financial Management from IESE Business School, University of Navarra (Spain). He holds a Master of Science degree in Management Research from IESE Business School and a Master of Science degree in Socioeconomic Systems Engineering specializing in Economics and Finance from Sharif University of Technology (Iran). Francisco Pérez is a distinguished expert in entrepreneurship, innovation and family business management, with an outstanding academic career that includes a PhD in Business Administration from SDA Bocconi, and an Executive MBA from INCAE Business School. His research work delves into the intersection between entrepreneurship and family businesses, providing valuable insights into how these areas complement and enhance each other.

With more than two decades of professional experience, Francisco has played a crucial role in fostering entrepreneurship in Latin America, leading both national and regional initiatives that seek to strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem. His commitment to the development of productive and social entrepreneurship has been recognized internationally, being named a Social Entrepreneur by the U.S. State Department in 2016.

As Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at INCAE since 2017, Francisco has implemented a visionary strategy to empower regional innovation, promote venture capital investment and accelerate the growth of technology startups. His leadership has been instrumental in establishing INCAE as a catalyst for entrepreneurial change in the region.

Es Profesor pleno en INCAE Business  School y participa activamente en los programas ejecutivos y de maestría regular y ejecutiva. Cuenta con una larga experiencia como miembro de la Facultad de INCAE, respaldada por varios años de ejercicio profesional en diferentes países. Es el director académico de la Maestría en Administración de Agronegocios (Master program in Agribusiness Management) y del MBA-Online Programa de Maestría en Administración de Negocios on-line). Miembro del Comité de Políticas Académicas de INCAE y Director del Comité de Calificaciones.

He currently teaches courses on Sustainability Management, Quantitative Methods and Financial Mathematics. He also participates in the consulting work of the Management Consulting project of the MAB and MAIT master's programs.

He does consulting work in several Latin American countries and has been a member of international professional associations such as the IAAE (International Association of Agricultural Economists) and IAMA (International Food and Agribusiness Management Association). He represented the PMA (Produce Marketing Association) of the United States in the region and is currently a director of several companies in Central America. He is a member of the College of Agricultural Engineers of Costa Rica.

He has participated intensively in the teaching of open executive programs and in the In Company modality in diverse areas such as Investment Risk Management and Evaluation, Project Formulation and Evaluation, Professional Project Management and Negotiation. He is the author and supervisor of numerous cases and teaching notes on different topics. Professor Perez has participated in several international congresses and conferences in various countries around the world and has presented the results of his research. His areas of interest are in the areas of competitiveness, sustainability and inclusiveness and Digital Transformation of Agribusiness.

Es doctor (Ph.D.) en Economía Agrícola de Purdue University, siendo sus áreas de especialización, Economía de Recursos Naturales y Estrategia Empresarial. Asimismo, obtuvo el título de Máster en Administración de Empresas (MAE) en INCAE, especializándose en Banca y Finanzas de Desarrollo, y realizó el postgrado en Administración Funcional (PAF) con énfasis en Gerencia Agroindustrial en la misma institución, graduándose con distinción. El profesor Pérez es además ingeniero agrónomo con especialidad en Irrigación de la Escuela Nacional de Agricultura-Universidad Autónoma de Chapingo, México, donde alcanzó cuadro de honor a lo largo de toda la carrera.

El profesor Pérez es además Ingeniero Agrónomo con especialidad en Irrigación de la Universidad Autónoma de Chapingo, México donde alcanzó cuadro de honor a lo largo de toda la carrera. Miembro de la facultad del INCAE con el rango de Profesor Pleno, estuvo al frente del Programa de Agroindustria del instituto durante varios años.

Su experiencia como profesor del INCAE en los programas ejecutivos y de maestría, se ha visto respaldada por varios años de ejercicio profesional en diferentes países. Ha realizado trabajos de consultoría en varios países latinoamericanos y ha sido miembro de asociaciones profesionales internacionales como la IAAE (International Association of Agricultural Economists) y IAMA (International Food and Agribusiness Management Association).

He represented the PMA (Produce Marketing Association) of the United States in the region and is currently a director of several companies in Central America. Professor Perez currently teaches courses on Sustainability Management, Quantitative Methods and Introduction to Financial Simulation and Entrepreneurship in the Master's Programs in Nicaragua and Costa Rica.

He also participates in executive education in events on Project Management, Assertive Communication and Decision Making and Presentation. He has also been a professor in these programs, in the courses of Quantitative Methods, Decision Making and Presentation, and Environmental Impact Project Evaluation.

He has participated intensively in the teaching of open executive programs and in the In-Company modality in diverse areas such as Investment Risk Management and Evaluation, Project Formulation and Evaluation, Project Management, Agro-industrial Project Evaluation and Negotiation.

He is the author and supervisor of numerous cases and teaching notes on different topics. Professor Pérez has participated in several international congresses and conferences in various countries around the world and has presented the results of his research. His areas of interest are Competitiveness, Sustainability and Inclusiveness; Innovation and Inclusive Business at the Base of the Pyramid.

Andrea M. Prado is an associate professor of management and organizations at INCAE Business School. She is director of the Strachan Chair in Philanthropy and Social Investment. Her research explores the role of companies in promoting sustainable development in the countries where they operate, particularly through their corporate social responsibility strategies and the delivery of products and services to low-income populations.

She also studies the impact and dynamics of industry self-regulation (i.e., the adoption of voluntary certification programs) to promote environmental and labor practices in emerging economies. She has published her research in prestigious academic journals, books and book chapters and has received multiple international awards.

Prof. Prado has led multiple executive programs in Health Management and Global Health at INCAE. She was the Academic Director of the Central America Healthcare Initiative (CAHI) from its inception in 2012 to 2019. CAHI seeks to catalyze access to quality healthcare services for low-income populations through innovative solutions and improved management capabilities in the region through a scholarship program delivered by INCAE.

Prado received a Ph.D. in Management and Organizations from the Stern School of Business, New York University, an M.A. in International Economics from the University of Essex, UK and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Costa Rica. He received a Fulbright scholarship for his doctoral studies and a Chevening scholarship for his master's studies.

He is a Full Professor at INCAE Business School, where he teaches Industrial Organization, eBusiness and International Finance. He holds a master's degree and a doctorate from Harvard University.

He has conducted research on capital flows to emerging economies, sovereign debt renegotiation processes, particularly those of Ecuador and Argentina, privatization processes in Central America, company valuation methodologies and more recently on global investment strategies.

His article "La Deuda Externa del Ecuador" appeared in Cuadernos de Economía. His articles "Deregulating Telecommunications in Central America" and "Building Electricity Markets in Central America" were published in Larrain, F (2001): Economic Development in Central America, Harvard University Press. In the last issue of the Journal Incae he published "The consistent use of flows and rates in the valuation of companies and projects".

He has advised companies and organizations on risk management, regulation and investment strategies. He has also researched restructuring processes in the electricity and telecommunications industries in Central America, focusing on regulatory and financial aspects.

Dr. Arnoldo Rodriguez is an associate professor at INCAE in the areas of Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting and Controlling. He earned his Ph.D. from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. He is also a graduate of INCAE. Professor Rodriguez is the Director of the Master in Analytics, Innovation and Technology (MAIT) program at INCAE.

He also serves as a consultant to companies in Latin America and has been a guest lecturer at the University of Minnesota, Webster University in St. Louis, and has lectured and taught at universities throughout Latin America. His main academic interests focus on the topics of Value Creation, Risk Management and Accounting Systems Analysis and how companies structure and manage these topics in the age of analytics.

Associate Professor at INCAE Business School, specializing in competitive strategy, corporate strategy and organizational change. His academic career distinguishes two lines of research: one related to the evolution and reconfiguration of global value chains and the other that seeks to understand how differences in organizational configuration, structure and management systems in Latin American environments affect firm performance. His teaching areas include: business strategy, corporate strategy, change management and organizational transformation. 

His academic research has received several international awards, such as the Gunnar Hedlund Prize (2016), awarded by the Stockholm School of Economics for the Best Doctoral Thesis in International Business, the Global Strategy Research Award (2020) by the European International Business Academy, recognizing his work in global strategy and the IM Douglas Nigh Award (2020), awarded by the International Management Division of the Academy of Management. He has published his research in renowned academic journals such as: the Global Strategy Journal, the Journal of Business Research, Corporate Governance, among others.

Professor Rodriguez has been recognized for his teaching excellence and has won the award for the best teacher in the full-time MBA program in 2019 and 2020. As a consultant, he has worked with firms from Mexico to Panama in areas of strategic planning, corporate strategy, cultural change management, organizational design and transformation.

Alberto Trejos received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania. As an academic, he has been a faculty member at Northwestern University and INCAE, where he also served as Dean and as director of the Latin American Center for Competitiveness and Sustainable Development. He has been a visiting scholar at the University of Michigan, the Institut d'Anàlisi Econòmica de Barcelona, the University of California and the Federal Reserve Bank of the United States. He has published extensively in both academic journals and practitioner media, especially in monetary theory, macroeconomics, international trade and development.

He is currently the president of Grupo Cuestamoras, and for two decades has been part of the governance (in Costa Rica and regionally) of the financial group BAC-Credomatic. He is a partner of the consulting firms CEFSA and DRP, and has provided his services to governments, international organizations and companies in 60 countries, mainly in the Americas, Europe and Africa.

In Costa Rica he was minister of foreign trade, a position from which he led the negotiation of CAFTA. He was one of the original members of the Financial System Supervisory Council and, for almost a decade, president of CINDE, the agency for attracting foreign direct investment. He participated in the design and negotiation of the Worker Protection Law, which constituted the integral reform of the pension system.

He has been a founding director of the Brenthurst Foundation in South Africa, the Democracy Lab and the advisory board of the New York University School of Public Health. He also chaired the Arias Foundation for Peace and Democracy. He has been a judge in international disputes before the World Trade Organization.

Alberto Trejos received his Ph.D. in economics with honors from the University of Pennsylvania in 1994. He has been a faculty member at Northwestern University, and a visiting professor at the University of Michigan and the Institut d Analisi Economica de Barcelona.

At INCAE he has served as dean and director of his think-tank, the Latin American Center for Competitiveness and Sustainable Development. His academic work focuses on monetary economics, macroeconomics, international economics and development.

In public policy, he served as Costa Rica's Minister of Foreign Trade, during which time he led the negotiation of CAFTA. He has also been president of CINDE, the investment attraction office, and a member of the National Council of Supervision of the Financial System. He participated in the design and negotiation of the pension system reform.

In private practice, he is a partner at CEFSA, the leading macroeconomic consulting firm in his country. He is a member of the board of directors of several important companies in Costa Rica, including the bank BAC San José, Corporación Cuestamoras, the newspaper El Financiero and the distributor DIPO.

Internationally, he has been a consultant and expert for governments, international organizations and companies in 50 countries in Latin America, Europe and Africa. He is a director of the Brenthurst Foundation in South Africa. He directs the International Council on the Economy for the President of Malawi, and is a member of the Board of International Advisors for the President of Mozambique.

Giovanni Visentin is an Assistant Professor of Marketing at INCAE Business School. His research focuses on the intersection of strategic leadership and marketing management, examining the ability of chief marketing officers (CMOs) to influence long-term marketing strategies. In addition, Professor Visentin studies consumer behavior to determine the socio-psychological characteristics that influence their ability to make long-term decisions on financial investments, food and sustainability.

Visentin uses archival and textual data, through essentially quantitative methods such as Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing (NLP), to understand phenomena such as managerial myopia, stakeholder management and financial performance in a variety of empirical contexts, including social networks, product markets and financial markets.

He has presented his research at numerous international conferences and is a member of several international academic and professional associations, including the American Marketing Association, the Academy of Marketing Science, the Association of Marketing Theory and Practice, the European Marketing Academy, the Strategic Management Society and the Academy of Management (STR and MOC divisions).

Professor Visentin's doctoral dissertation, entitled: "Leadership Determinants of Myopic Management: Implications for Marketing", received much attention in the field of marketing management and was selected as outstanding by the French Marketing Association (AFM). Her teaching experience includes teaching case-based courses on the application of analytical tools for business decision making to Global MBA, Online MBA and Executive MBA students at INCAE Business School.

Previously, his career was focused on consulting, serving as a lead consultant and project manager for multinational companies and leading law firms. His areas of expertise include legal and tax advisory, intangible asset valuation, corporate finance and forensic accounting.

He earned his PhD in Management Sciences from ESCP Business School in Paris and his MSc in Accounting and Finance from Bocconi University in Milan. In addition to his Italian mother tongue, Giovanni is fluent in English and French, and is practicing his Spanish to add to his list of languages.

biography

Roy Gerardo Zúñiga is a full professor at INCAE Business School, where he teaches the courses Operations Management, Operations Strategy, Digitalization of Operations, Industry 4.0, Operations and Supply Chain Analytics. He is the academic director of the Artificial Intelligence for Organizations Program, the Master in Business Analytics, the Master in Data Analytics, the Young Executives Program, the Leadership for High Potentials Program and the Entrepreneurship Development and Acceleration Program. He teaches in Executive Education and Public Management Programs.

He previously served as dean of the Walter Kissling Gam Campus at INCAE, dean of faculty, director of CLACDS (Latin American Center for Competitiveness and Sustainable Development), dean of executive education, associate dean of marketing and as executive director of INCAE.

He has been a consultant for the World Bank, founder and board member of several companies and advisor to the Industrial Reconversion Program of Costa Rica in the leather and footwear, textile, apparel, food and plastics sectors; general manager of a restaurant chain; as well as process engineer, assistant materials manager and plant manager of Sony Music's Columbia Broadcasting System.

He was nominated by his students at INCAE for the Best Business Professor Award by The Economist, obtaining the number 4 position in the world and the number 1 position in Latin America. His professional, academic and life experience, in more than 50 countries in 4 continents, make him a citizen of the world, with a solid multicultural vision based on countless experiences and learning.

Professor María Elena Carballo, a native of Costa Rica, earned a Ph.D. in Literary Studies and an M.A., both from Brandeis University in the United States. Her dissertation was on García Márquez's "The Autumn of the Patriarch" and the Spanish-American novel of the dictatorship.

Prior to joining INCAE, she was a Fulbright-LASPAU scholar for three years and a Hirschfeld Fellow at Brandeis University for two consecutive years. Her book "La Casa Paterna", which she co-authored, won the 1993 national essay prize in Costa Rica.

At INCAE, in the master's degree programs, he teaches courses in the areas of humanities and communication.

Ha acumulado más de quince años de experiencia docente en América Latina y los Estados Unidos. Ha impartido cátedra en más de 200 seminarios, talleres, conferencias en los Estados Unidos, Centro y Sur América.  Anteriormente, ocupó posiciones administrativas dentro de INCAE tales como Secretario General, Director de Maestrías y Decano.

He has international experience as a consultant in companies and institutions in Central America, Panama, Brazil, Ecuador and Paraguay. John C. Ickis (M.B.A., D.B.A. Harvard University) es Profesor Emérito de Organización y Estrategia de INCAE Business School. Es coautor del libro El Octágono: un Modelo para Alinear la RSE con la Estrategia entre otros, y de artículos en World Development y The Harvard Business Review. Ha escrito más de cien casos de enseñanza, muchos de los cuales publicados en libros de texto y casos o distribuidos por HBS Publishing. Ha dirigido talleres de la enseñanza y escritura de casos en más de una docena de países en América Latina, Asia, Europa Occidental y Central, y Norteamérica.

He was selected as an instructor at Harvard Business School's first Colloquium for Participant-Centered Learning (CPCL I) and invited by the World Bank to present management education alternatives to the Government of China at a high-level symposium, documented in the Bank's publication, Educating Managers for Business and Government: A Review of International Experience. As a consultant, Dr. Ickis advanced competitiveness initiatives at the national level in Croatia and at the provincial level in South Africa.

Ickis (M.B.A., D.B.A., Harvard University) fue Decano de Facultad y Profesor Titular de Administración de Empresas de INCAE Business School en el campo de estrategia y organización. Ha desempeñado los cargos de Director Académico, Decano de la Escuela de Administración en Alajuela, Costa Rica y Decano del Campus Francisco De Sola en Montefresco, Nicaragua.

During open periods he was President of the international consulting firm J.E. Austin Associates, Inc., CEO-founder of J.E. Austin d.o.o. in Zagreb, Croatia and Chief-of-Party for the National Competitiveness Initiative in that country. Dr. Ickis' specialization is the design and execution of strategic processes in private companies and civic organizations. His dissertation, published in Bureaucracy and the Poor, was on strategy and structure in rural development. He was a Visiting International Scholar at Harvard Business School where he developed materials for the Managing in Developing Countries course. He is co-author of articles on this topic in World Development and The Harvard Business Review, and author of numerous case studies and articles published in management journals and academic journals.

He has been a guest lecturer at the Lincoln Land Center of Harvard University, the Special Program of Urban and Regional Studies of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Yale School of Organization and Management and the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. He has directed management education and competitiveness programs in Latin America, Asia, Africa and Central Europe. He is an expert in the case method, was selected as an instructor at the First Colloquium on Participant-Centered Learning at Harvard Business School and has conducted workshops on teaching and writing cases at universities and educational institutions in twelve countries.

Invited by the World Bank to research alternative models of management education and present the results to the Government of China at a national forum. Developed and delivered programs to increase local competitiveness in several Central American countries and in several provinces of South Africa. In Croatia, he advanced competitiveness initiatives at the national level, actively engaging business leadership, the Prime Minister and trade union leaders, and laying the groundwork for Croatia's entry into the European Union.

Dr. Ickis' consulting work has focused on strategic planning and organizational change in companies in various sectors, including the Panamerican School of Agriculture (now Zamorano University), the IBM subsidiary in Central America, CARE USA and the Bolivian state oil company, YPFB. He holds a Bachelor of International Studies degree from Miami University (Ohio) and a Bachelor of Foreign Trade from Thunderbird Graduate School of International Management.

He has worked as a Team Leader at General Electric Co. in Cleveland, Ohio, a Peace Corps volunteer in Veraguas, Panama and in agricultural work in Les Petits-Ponts, Switzerland. He is a member of The Academy of Management and a guest editor for the journals Management Decision and Informing Science: The International Journal of an Emerging Transdiscipline. He is the author of more than 50 cases and publications and co-author of several books, including: Strategic Investment Analysis and Mergers and Acquisitions in Practice.

Dr. Montiel is professor emeritus of INCAE Business School. He holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University, USA, as well as a master's degree from the Sloan School of Management of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering (cum laude). cum laude) from the University of Michigan.

With the support of the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank (WB), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Harvard Business School, he led the founding of ProNicaragua, the country's main investment promotion agency.

He has been a director and advisor to private regional banks, insurance companies, commercial and industrial companies, foundations and non-profit organizations.

In the public sector, he was Minister of Finance and Public Credit of Nicaragua, as well as Governor of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and President of the Superintendency of Banks of Nicaragua (SIBOIF).

In addition, he is the author of four books and more than 70 articles, cases and technical notes.

At INCAE he served as Dean and has been a professor in the areas of Banking and Finance.

Work experience

Professor Montiel served as Dean of INCAE and as Academic Director of both the Executive Master in Management and the Global Executive MBA. As a professor, he was in charge of several courses in Banking and Finance including the Financial Innovations and Fintechs course in the Master in Finance and the Corporate Finance course in the Executive Master in Management.

He was a researcher at Harvard University, as well as a teaching assistant for the Financial Institutions course and the Investment Management course at the Harvard Business School MBA Program, where he obtained his PhD specializing in Financial Institutions and Markets.

Dr. Montiel was the founder of ProNicaragua, an investment promotion agency established in 2002 with the support of the International Finance Association (IFC) of the World Bank, UNDP and Harvard Business School. ProNicaragua received the 2006 WAIPA Award from the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies as the best in Latin America and one of the top five in the world out of more than 100 investment promotion agencies operating at the time.

Professor Montiel was also founder and president of Cambridge Consulting, advising numerous companies and financial institutions in more than a dozen countries in Latin America and Europe. He has served on the boards of commercial and industrial companies, banks, insurance companies, foundations and non-profit organizations.

Profesor emérito de INCAE en Costa Rica y profesor del Instituto de Empresa en Madrid. Fue profesor investigador en la Universidad de los Andes y en Harvard University; también ha sido profesor visitante en Japón, Francia y España. Estudió Ingeniería industrial en la Universidad Industrial de Santander (Colombia), tiene un MBA en administración de empresas en el IESE de Barcelona, M. S. en psicología social y Ph. D. en teoría organizacional en la Universidad de Northwestern (USA).

He has published 30 books on intercultural negotiation, strategy, organizational leadership and management of civic organizations, all focused on the Latin American reality. His publications in Harvard University Press, his "Manual de Planificación Estratégica", and "Cómo negocian los colombianos" (How Colombians negotiate) stand out. He has been the Director of Academia Revista Latinoamericana de Administración since 1999. He is an active researcher in the areas of intercultural management, negotiation, careers, management of social enterprises, and organizational strategy.

El profesor emérito de INCAE, Guillermo Selva Tapia, posee un  Ph.D. en Administración de Empresas con especialización en Gerencia de Operaciones de la Universidad de North Carolina en Chapel Hill. Así mismo, posee dos títulos de la Universidad de Southern California en Los Angeles, una Maestría en Ingeniería Electromecánica (MScEE) y una Maestría en Ingeniería Industrial y de Sistemas (MScISE). Es graduado del Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, México, donde obtuvo su grado de ingeniero electricista, y es miembro de la sociedad honorífica de Ingeniería Industrial Alpha Pi Mu.

En la Institución, como profesor impartió clases en el área de Operaciones, también se desempeñó como investigador, instructor y Decano Asociado de los programas de Maestrías.  Durante su carrera en INCAE el profesor Selva escribió más de 80 casos de estudio y notas técnicas en temas de gerencia de energía, gerencia de operaciones, gerencia de servicios, mejoramiento operacional y estrategia de operaciones.

Work experience

El profesor emérito Selva se integró a INCAE Business School en Nicaragua en la década de los 80 después de 12 años de vida profesional en el sector eléctrico y el sector industrial del país donde alcanzó puestos en la alta gerencia. El profesor Selva se desempeñó en el Instituto Nicaragüense de Energía, la organización en ese entonces responsable de la generación, transmisión y distribución de energía en todo el país, como Gerente de Ingeniería, Sub-Director General de Operaciones e Ingeniería y Director General de Ingeniería y Construcciones.

He also served for two years as Vice General Manager of Industrial Cervecera, S.A. (Cervecería Toña), one of the largest industrial companies in the country. Professor Selva is a graduate of the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Mexico, where he obtained his degree in electrical engineering, and of the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, where he obtained his master's degree in electrical engineering (MScEE) and his master's degree in industrial and systems engineering (MScISE). He completed his doctoral studies in business administration specializing in operations management at The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Es miembro de la sociedad honorífica de Ingeniería Industrial Alpha Pi Mu En INCAE se ha desempeñado como investigador, instructor, profesor del área de Gerencia de Operaciones y Decano Asociado de los programas de Maestrías. Durante su carrera en INCAE el profesor Selva ha escrito más de 80 casos de estudio y notas técnicas en temas de gerencia de energía, gerencia de operaciones, gerencia de servicios, mejoramiento operacional y estrategia de operaciones, enseñando esos tópicos en los programas de MBA y Executive MBA. Es autor del libro Administración de la Energía que sirvió de base para la estructuración del curso de maestría del mismo nombre.

También dirigió una investigación sobre la industria de servicios logísticos, 3PL, en Centroamérica, la primera en su género, para conocer las características de esa industria en la región. Los resultados han sido difundidos en diferentes documentos de la escuela, incluyendo la Revista INCAE. Sus áreas de interés se vinculan con los temas de gerencia y estrategia de operaciones, gerencia de servicios, cambio para el mejoramiento operacional, supply chain management y logística, áreas en las que ha asesorado a numerosas empresas de la región Centroamericana, México, República Dominicana y Ecuador.

Cuando fue Decano Asociado de Maestrías, por ocho años, el profesor Selva supervisó y mejoró los procesos administrativos y académicos de los programas de maestría de INCAE.  También impulsó fuertemente la internacionalización de la escuela y reforzadó y amplió las relaciones con las escuelas socias de INCAE en EEUU y Europa. Representó a INCAE ante EFMD, European Foundation for Management Development, el EMBAC, Executive MBA Council, y el Consejo Latinoamericano de Escuelas de Administración, CLADEA, habiendo efectuado varias presentaciones en las conferencias anuales de esas organizaciones sobre tendencias de la educación en las escuelas de negocios.

A mediados de 2008 fue electo por los representantes de las 400 mejores escuelas de negocio del mundo que conforman el Executive MBA Council como miembro de su Consejo Directivo. En Junio de 2008, sirvió como co-chair de la conferencia internacional anual que se realizó en Costa Rica con el apoyo de INCAE de Pan Pacific Business Association, organización de académicos interesados en temas de integración de los países de la cuenca del Pacífico. Es miembro de las sociedades de académicos y de gerentes: Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, American Production and Inventory Control Society, Production and Operations Manag.
